  SprocKidz – Youth Mountain Biking Program

  SprocKidz is a summer youth mountain biking program hosted by Valley Mountain Bikers and Hikers, designed to introduce kids and teens (ages 8–18) to the fundamentals of mountain biking in a fun, supportive, and active outdoor environment. Riders will build confidence on the bike while learning trail skills, basic bike maintenance, and proper trail etiquette—all while making friends and having a great time on local trails.

  Sprockidz is a volunteer run program. If you're interested in coaching sweeping or other forms of volunteering, please email sprockidz@gmail.com

  Program Schedule
  The SprocKidz season runs June through July, with rides held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30–8:00 PM.

  • June rides take place at the Experimental Farm entrance of the Mat-Su Greenbelt

  • July rides move to Government Peak Recreation Area

  Additional special rides and end-of-season activities may be included throughout the program.

  Registration Information

  • Returning rider registration: Opens March 25th

  • New rider registration: Opens April 15th

  Spots are limited and tend to fill quickly.

• Government Peak Trail Work Day & Ride After

  Join us for a Trail Work Day at Government Peak Recreation Area on Saturday, June 20th, from 9:00 AM until around noon. After the work is done, we'll head out for a ride if folks are interested!

  No experience is necessary everyone is welcome. We'll be tackling a few rough sections of trail and addressing several small drainage issues to help keep the trails in great shape for the season.

  Tools will be provided, but if you have a shovel or garden rake, please bring it along. We also have some gloves available.

  After the work is complete, stick around for food and drinks pizza will probably be on the menu again!

  Please note that there is construction at the Trunk Road/Palmer-Fishhook Road intersection, so plan extra travel time when heading to the trailhead.

  Registration for the 2026 Government Peak Enduro is now OPEN!

  Get ready for an exciting afternoon of mountain biking at Government Peak Recreation Area. The Enduro combines endurance, technical skill, and speed, featuring approximately 10 miles of riding and 2,000 feet of climbing with multiple timed downhill stages.

  Whether you're racing for a top finish or looking to challenge yourself on some of Alaska's best trails, the Government Peak Enduro delivers an unforgettable experience.

  The Enduro race begins at 2:30 PM on Saturday, July 25th.

  Join us on Saturday, July 25th, for one of the Valley's favorite cross-country mountain bike races. The Chain Breaker XC is open to riders of all ages and abilities, making it the perfect event for first-time racers, experienced competitors, and everyone in between.

  Whether you're aiming for a podium finish or simply looking for a fun day on the trails, the Chain Breaker offers a challenging and rewarding race experience in the beautiful Government Peak Recreation Area.

  Race categories are available for all ages, and we'll also be hosting a Strider Race at 2:00 PM for our youngest riders.
